Md.Monjur Rashid, an artist who refuses to confine his creativity within rigid boundaries, expresses his craft as an ever-changing language. His artistic journey began early in life, inspired by his cousin who excelled at capturing images. This inspiration ignited Monjur’s passion for art, leading him to explore various mediums and techniques.
His artistic repertoire spans watercolour, acrylic, and mixed media, with graphic lines often weaving through his paintings, creating a captivating sensory experience. Beyond traditional portraiture, Monjur Rashid beautifully expresses nature themes on his canvases. For Monjur, art is not merely a hobby; it’s a full-time profession. He shared, “I want to spend my days with art, creating art.”
Monjur Rashid’s vision for art transcends what he calls “academic language.” Rather than being bound by specific mediums, he remains open to any tool that serves his expressive purpose. He stated, “I don’t want to be bound by mediums.” While some aspects of academic conventions persist, Monjur believes in experimentation and creating his own artistic language. Whether using watercolour, charcoal, or pastels, he allows his heart’s desires to guide his choice of medium.
Currently, Monjur Rashid works on three series: “Portrait,” “Flower,” and “Wildlife.” These series sometimes interact and intertwine, reflecting the ebb and flow of life. Text also plays a significant role in his art, with many of his paintings incorporating written words. His experiences, conversations, and observations—whether from sitting in a tong (a local gathering place) or encountering diverse backgrounds—shape his artistic language.
Monjur Rashid’s journey continues, marked by a commitment to creativity, exploration, and the ever-evolving language of colour.
